Manny Ramirez turns down 25 million

Manny Ramirez turned down the Dodgers offer for 1 year at 25 million. I don't get that, as he doesn't have teams beating down his door, and time is short.
This is starting to remind me of Rod Carew at the end of his Hall of Fame career, or even better, Bonds last year. Carew was a good guy, and his last year he was productive, batting .280 with an OBP of .371. Just no one wanted him for the price he asked, so he retired.
Bonds, well, no one wanted the circus that came to town with him.

Andy Pettitte also found out that MLB clubs are just not falling all over themselves to throw money at players who are flawed. He turned down the Yankees initial offer of 10 million, and held out for...


5 million.

The top players get the big money, still, but the second and third tier guys are coming up far short of what they got a few years ago.

What a Game!!! Steelers Win

Super Bowl LXIII is in the books, and it was an unbelievable game. It seems all the action took place in the last few minutes as the Cardinals came back from a 20-7 deficit to take a 23-20 lead with 3 minutes to go. Big Ben Roethlesberger drove down the field and passed his way to a last minute win for the Steelers 27-23.

The game had everything, including a safety.

Larry Fitzgerald caught 2 TD passes. Every Super Bowl should be this exciting.

Time to make the guacamole

The chips and salsa are bought, the DiGiorno pizza is in the freezer, and the veggie tray is ordered. I'm ready for the Super Bowl.

Sadly, the stupid Giants aren't in, but at least it looks to be a good game with the Cardinals against the Steelers.

I heard it described this morning, "if were a betting man, I'd put my money on Arizona, but I'm not, so I'm backing the Steelers."

I've always liked the Steelers. When I was a kid, and my Giants were getting their butts kicked every week, I needed to root for another team, too. I picked the best team they would never play, the Steelers of the 1970's. I've appreciated the team's work effort then, and ever since.

So, this Sunday, I'm rooting for the Steelers, but would be happy if the Cardinals win, as they have never done it before. The last championship was in 1947, pre-datingthe Super Bowl by many years.

Talk about indecisive. LOL. I just hope it's a good game, and we have enough nachos.

Slow week

Nothing much happening in Yankee Stadium. No signings, no nothing. Still waiting to get word on Pettitte. Spring training is less than a month away.

Giants are sitting home. Super Bowl in a week, so this week should be a lot of coverage on Mike and Mike on ESPN 2 in the mornings.

I'm rooting for the Cardinals, but don't think they can beat the Steelers. I'm rooting for them because it will be their first championship since 1947, and the first Super Bowl win ever.

Adam "Pacman" Jones is a putz

So, Adam Jones got cut by the Cowboys and another talented guy throws it all away. One of his quotes after being cut, according to ESPN, was "I love me some me."
Apparently, this expression was made popular by Terrill Owens (also a member of the 'Boys.)

I understand it is ok to be comfortable with oneself, and even to love oneself, but does this say something about a man who, due to his own selfish and stupid actions, has let down his team mates, his family, and anyone who ever believed in him? It certainly does scream of an ego that is hyperinflated. The ego of a putz. The ego of a guy on a team NOT in the playoffs.

Meanwhile back to important stuff.

The Giants are playing the Eagles on Sunday in what will be a "Battle Royale." This may be the best game of the entire season, better than the Super Bowl may be. As a G Men fan, naturally, they are the pick.

But looking at it critically, the Giants do seem to be the team to beat. They have Earth, Wind, and Fire at full strength. The Iggles have a couple of nagging injuries. The week off has been of tremendous benefit to my team.

The Giants should win this one 27-17, easily covering the spread (currently 4 pts)
