Another walkoff win, another cream pie

AJ Burnett has introduced as new tradition at Yankee Stadium, and it would be great to see it happen another hundred times this year.

As the Yankee who drove in the winning run gets interviewed, AJ comes up and hits him in the face with a cream pie.



Johnny Damon who homered in the bottom of the 10th was the latest "victim."

The third straight come from behind walkoff win, and 5th straight win overall, has thrust the Yanks right in the middle of the race.

And nothing but good news from down on the farm as Wang pitched well at Scranton, going 7 innings and getting mostly ground ball outs (the sinker is working well) and Bruney is on track to be back in a few days, also.

Monday, the Yanks finish up the 4 game series with the Twins as Pettitte takes the mound.

Yankees win using the long ball

Teixeira, Cano, and Damon all belted home runs yesterday to beat the O's and finally win a series taking 2 out of 3 in Baltimore.

For the second start in a row, Joba got roughed up in the first inning, climaxed by Huff's 3 run homer, and then he settled down, shutting out the Birds until turning the ball over to the 'pen in the seventh.

Considering his fired up attitude, one can only presume he is so excited to start that he just loses concentration. It sure isn't his lack of ability, as once he gets over the first inning problem, he is almost unhittable.

Rookie catcher Cervelli continues to impress with his enthusiasm and his ablity. He may become part of the long line of great Yankee catchers. It's funny how some teams have so many outstanding players at one position, and the Yankees certainly have a long line of catchers who were All-Stars, and some who were Hall of Famers.

Bill Dickey and Yogi (does he even need a last name?) both shared number 8, and are enshrined at Cooperstown. Elston Howard, Thurman Munson (my favorite Yankee ever,) and Jorge Posada were all perennial All Stars. Will Cervelli be next? He seems to have the zest for playing. Only time will tell.

Today is a travel day, and a series against Toronto starts on Tuesday.

Yankee bats go quiet

30 year old rookie Matt Palmer spread a few hits around, and the Halos eventually got to CC in the 7th inning. The key hit seemed to be a single that dropped just in front of LF Johnny Damon. Making that catch may have shut them down altogether. The Angels just seem to have a way of feeding off each other. While CC's line looks rather meh, with 8 hits and 4 ER in 6.2 innings, it really was much better than that. If Damon (who is nursing several injuries) had gotten to that ball, or if Abaldelajo had gotten out the first batter he faced, things would have looked much differently.
Yeah, I know, "if" is the biggest little word, but we are not talking about a miracle here. The ball to Damon was quite catchable, and a fresh reliever should be able to get the first batter out.

I'm not even going to carp about the 30 year old rookie that the team made look like Walter Johnson, as he scattered 3 hits over nearly 7 innings. The offense went 2 for 11 with RISP.

Sad, very sad.
